Summer Reading Roulette

Summer Reading Roulette is a reading game for players ages 18 and older. Spin the roulette wheel to find out which type of book you'll be challenged with reading. Every book you read earns you an entry into a drawing for big prizes. You'll also have opportunities to pick up gift cards to local businesses as you play. Play as much or as little as you like over the couse of the summer and enjoy adding some gaming fun to your reading!

Basic Instructions

  • Sign up by filling out a record sheet at the Information Desk.
  • Each time you play, you will automatically get to spin the wheel one time. Before you spin, you’ll be asked to predict whether the ball will land in a red or a black space. If you predict correctly, you’ll earn an extra spin.
  • At the roulette wheel, a library staff member will spin the wheel and the ball. Each slot in which the ball may land will prompt you to read a specific type of book. Should you wish to complete the task prompted by the slot, retrieve the corresponding paper task card from the staff member at the Information Desk. If you do not wish to complete the task, you don’t have to, but your turn will be over for the day.
  • Complete the reading task provided on the task card. (Note: you must read a different book for each task. Any books used to satisfy game requirements must be read entirely after the official start date of the game. Unless otherwise noted, each book read must be at least 200 pages.)
  • Return your completed task card(s) to the Information Desk.
  • Each completed reading task earns you one point, and each point is good for one entry in a prize drawing. Once your task card, which is also your point, has been hole-punched by the Information Desk staff member, place it in the prize box of your choice.
  • Play as often as once per day throughout the summer!

Wheel & Tasks

  • There are 38 slots on the roulette wheel. Most of them contain reading tasks, and some are special slots that trigger awards or bonuses for the player.
  • There are some slots on the wheel marked “Gift Card.” If the ball lands in a gift card slot, you receive a gift card to a local business. You may only receive one gift card per turn. If you land in a gift card slot and only have one spin for the day, you continue spinning until you land in a task slot. If you have two spins for the day and one lands in a gift card slot, you may spin a third time.
  • There are some slots on the board marked “Multiplier.” These slots earn you double, triple points, or quintuple points for the task you next land in. If you land in a multiplier slot and only have one spin for the day, you continue spinning until you land in a task slot. If you have two spins for the day and one lands in a multiplier slot, you may spin a third time.  Note: Multipliers do not apply to non-task cards.
  • There are some slots on the board marked “Bonus Spin.” If the ball lands in a Bonus Spin slot, you are given the option to play a bonus roulette game to earn extra points (see “Bonus Spin” section for full details). If your spin lands in a Bonus Spin slot and you only have one spin for the day, you continue spinning until you land in a task slot. If you have two spins for the day and one lands in a Bonus Drop slot, you may spin a third time. You are only permitted to play Bonus Spin once per day.
  • You do not have to complete a task to play again; you may play once per day, regardless of whether you complete a task.

Bonus Drop

  • Bonus Spin is a bonus roulette game that gives you the chance to earn extra drawing entries. It is played on a separate, smaller roulette wheel from the main game with a roulette betting table.
  • You are given three betting chips to place on the betting table. You may place a bet on black/red, odd/even, a column, a third, or an individual number by placing a chip on the appropriate space on the table. You may bet a single chip on multiple spaces, or multiple chips on fewer spaces. You will earn bonus points according to the results of the spin. Bonus points for each type of bet are as follows:
Bet Payout
Black/Red 1 drawing entry: 1 chip bet
Odd/Even

1 : 1

Columns 2 : 1
Thirds (1-12, etc.) 2 : 1
Individual Number 10 : 1 plus a coupon

  • Each time you play Bonus Spin, you are given three spins, with three chips to bet each time. There are no caps on the number of bonus points or gift cards you may earn playing Bonus Spin.
  • For every five books you read, you are given the option to play Bonus Spin. Bonus Spin may also be triggered by landing the roulette ball in certain slots on the main wheel.
  • Playing Bonus Spin is optional; you are welcome to decline to play, you just won’t receive bonus points.

Gift Cards

  • After reading three books, you’ll earn a small gift card to a local business.
  • Each week, we'll randomly select five participants who have completed a book that week to receive a gift card.
  • You'll be notified via email when you earn/win a gift card.

Points & Prizes

  • The object of the game is to accumulate as many points as possible. Points are attained by completing reading tasks and earning bonus points from playing Bonus Spin.
  • Each point equates to one entry in a prize box of your choice. You may place all of your points in one prize box, or you may split them among multiple prize boxes as desired.
  • At the end of the game period, a prize drawing will be held. If your name is drawn from a prize box, you win that prize. You may not win more than one of the prizes.

The prizes are:

  • Kindle Fire Tablet
  • Amazon gift card ($50)
